Collecting materials for her studies meant a long trek from her hometown into the the mountains of Kyrias, a dangerous and expensive journey, but between the four of them they would both hopefully manage to avoid attracting attention and would be able to handle any heanta that did come upon them. Each of her companions was a veteran of the company and plenty familiar with each other and herself, it was really the best small group she could muster. Lèon was first and foremost a mountaineer and their guide to making the best ascent for their mission, but he had enough ability with a blade to deal with wild animals reliably. Laure was more of a specialist in covert activities, but was still more a combatant than the former. Edmèe  was, put plainly, the muscle of the group with a spear and shield and limited technical skills that might find a niche use out here at best. For the bulk of the time spent in friendly territory, Isolde herself was the only one to remain quiet unless addressed, even Laure made herself know more in the lively conversations regarding just about anything there was to talk about between three friends who had been through a lot together.

However, once they crossed in Heanta lands, the entire band became dead quiet. The Heanta for one reason or another, did not keep tight border security, perhaps it was a matter of attitudes, they were the ones conducting raids and one for one a heanta was stronger and usually a better fighter than a human, so any violation of their borders might have seemed well enough mopped up by small wandering bands and any dedicated invasion force would be spotted from miles away and responded to in force. But whatever the reason behind it, it made slipping in to scour the mountains for samples and resources seemingly easy considering they made it into their lands and began to climb a steep section of the mountain's base all without seeing a soul. Heanta weren't known to stalk groups quietly, though it was still possible, but any pride or bloodlust they had she was certain would have made such unthinkable against such a small group.

"There are plenty of things worth collecting even this far down, so a shelf with good access to the rest of the mountain sounds like a good place to establish ourselves. Unless you know better, see if you can find anything fitting that description." Her voice rang out in the quiet surroundings, causing even herself to flinch initially. Lèon made no objections however and went ahead to locate such a spot as well as plot a path to it that the others would be able to follow. Laure and Edmèe stayed close to Isolde while the alchemist went over her notes. Plants, dirt samples, a few different types of rocks, an endemic species of lizard, a handful of different local beetles, the Northeast Heatan Blackbird, the Northeast Serrated Beak Hawk, all were on her list though if they had to leave with less it would be better than dying. Though since none of them were experts and she only had descriptions and sketches to go off of, they might be lucky to correctly identify and locate any of them.

A tiptoeing expedition Empty Re: A tiptoeing expedition

He was on his way back into Kyrias when he noticed an interesting sight making its way towards the border. He kept his distance, a mischievous smile crossed the heanta's face. Checking his crude map he had made, Sigdrifumal figured the four of them were still a decent hour out of Kyrias. Taking his time, he found a vantage point to watch the group without moving himself too much. He discerned the group as a priority target being escorted by muscle and finesse. The meat head didn't seem to be keeping check of their outward surroundings, but more of what was coming, while the other seemed to know what she was doing, and making it hard for Sig to track their group efficiently without being caught himself.

Once they crossed into Kyrias he wasn't as worried about keeping himself hidden. The groups tracks were easy to follow, foreign to the land. Sig took a moment to consider the situation, he was coming back looking for a fight with someone else, he didn't have the time to mess around with a group of humans, regeneration or not he couldn't be certain what their priority target could do too. When he decided to pick himself back up and follow their trail again he wasn't disappointed to see they'd found their way into the mountains. While it'd be slightly more difficult to track them, these mountains were Heanta turf, easy enough to maneuver.

The woman's voice caught Sig's ears as he was scrambling up the side of the mountain they were on. When he peaked his head over he wasn't disappointed to see the woman of finesse leading the group, more concerned with finding a path for the other two. The meat head seemed focused on his direction and he could only smile, lifting himself up fully with fire erupting across his hands, two fiery sickles forming in his limp fingers, the sound of chains falling to the ground could be heard echoing across the cliff face. "Looking for a ledge further down can be solved easily with improvised climbing gear. Trust me, its better than sliding down these mountains."

With that the Heanta erupted into motion, sprinting towards the group, dipping his gazelle shaped horns he stopped, 10 feet away from them. Curling his entire body into a ball and jumping off the ledge. He threw one of the flaming sickles at the base of Laure's foot to attempt to stop the group moving forward. His body jerked and he slammed into the wall about 3 feet below the group. He threw the other sickle further down their path and pulled himself back up. Once on the ledge he pulled the flame sickle out from beneath Laure, spinning it in his hand. "Trust me or not, but these can help you traverse these walls for about another minute or so before I've got to rest." He was prepared for them to retaliate now, if they hadn't already attempted something against him.

The voice grabbed their attention and their weapons were readied before they could even process it, a necessary reaction for surviving in situations like this, but attacking their surroundings cluelessly would have been a waste of energy and probably put each of them in more danger. Thankfully the one that had spoke revealed himself, but he was quick and those flaming sickles were not going to be taken lightly by any of the three in the area. The charge was met with attempts to get out of the way and the tossing of the blades was responded to with the best attempts the three could manage at not being hit, yet there was something off about this already, namely that this heanta didn't seem too terribly aggressive despite throwing those sickles around. Normally they wouldn't be letting up, but she couldn't very well complain about keeping her head on her shoulders being easier. "Just what are your intentions? Laure, find Lèon and retreat, get what you can find and we will regroup later."

Isolde, as subtly as she could manage, pulled a few bottles from her bag and unsealed them to pour its contents across the ground in a line between them and the heanta, meanwhile Laure prepared to track down Lèon and Edmèe steeled herself for a fight. "Help is the last thing I expect from your kind, so I don't imagine you came here for charitable reasons." She hoped the conversation would stall any hostilities long enough for her concoction to work its figurative and perhaps literal magic, which it soon started to with an audible hiss and an increasing concentration of smoke as it reacted with the mountain's minerals. While the liquid that she had poured had quite a powerful stench, this cloud hardly had any scent at all of its own.

He watched as the larger man ran off, with the one standing before him giving orders it seemed as the agile one ran off as well. He took a moment to watch them, it was an interesting interaction. "Well, I could ask you the same thing wandering into Kyrias, but I've been following you lot cause I'm on my way back into Kyrias myself. I don't mean any trouble, I've got better things to do than start something with your lot." By that point he'd hoped he had cleared any hostile intentions himself, letting both the sickles in his hands drop to the ground.

He still watched though as the bottle was poured out across the ground between them. Sig wasn't overly surprised by this reaction. The stench of the bottle's contents were horrid alright but he also knew the cloud was a distraction he rushed into it to see if he could catch the alchemist off guard. "You should take another second to learn whether you'd like to actually fight or have a unique guide." Standing his ground, Sig's drak'na could be seen clearly at this distance and he hoped they'd help re-iterate his point that he'd rather not fight them and meant what he had said.

A heanta not wanting to cause trouble was almost unheard of, but provoking a fight wouldn't do them any favors. "Why would you be interested in helping us? You don't look like a scholar, so I see nothing you could gain from this expedition succeeding." The smoke continued to expand and rise, but stopped about 12 feet up, only occasionally going any higher from the winds, only to fall back down, a little more dispersed. Edmèe remained ready for anything, but knew better than to ruin this delicate balance and plunge them into a fight, and Isolde herself stook a few steps, or rather quick hops, back and watched the heanta carefully, considering diving through the remaining smoke to escape his sight and get away, but he might not lose them so easily. "If you really mean to help us for whatever reason, we need samples of the local soil as well as indigenous plants and animals." She would need a moment to retrieve her staff from her things if they got ugly, but once it was in her hands, they would stand a better chance, so she imagined her limbs like springs, pressed and ready to rebound and snatch it from its place.

He wasn't exactly sure how to respond to the woman, taking a moment to ponder her words. Why was he going to help them when he was returning home for something else entirely. Why should he help these rats that scurried their way into his homeland, defiling it with each and every step they take through these mountains. Yet something was nagging at him, that if he could get them what they needed here and now, they wouldn't return any time soon. Vala likely wouldn't kill these people unless they attacked her first, and he'd stand his ground if they did the same. Biting his tongue wasn't something Sigdrifumal was use to but it meant he might be welcomed in more places around the world later on like Vala. "Lets just say, it's in both of our interest for me to help you get what you need. If i weren't the one to confront you now, likely another heanta would see two small humans and a single okay fight in the bigger gentleman."

He took a few steps back, dropping both of the sickles from his hands the fiery chains however still extending from the palm of his hand as the two blades clashed into the ground. To ensure that he was showing his best effort to come off non-hostile he curled his fingers inward upon each other so that he couldn't grab the chain and swing it comfortably without relaxing them. "While I find it very humiliating, as a sign of willingness to work with you three..." Sig raised his hands further above his head as he took a knee bowing his head to show he was serious. "...so I'll give my name, Sigdrifumal Braene." He left his clan name out, to avoid any unnecessary reprocutions later. With that he kept his head down, continuing to speak. "The soil throughout Kyrias is mostly ash from the volcanic eruptions we live with, as for plants... You'd rather keep your fingers away from most of the living ones. The same can be said for the animals however, nothing truly small can live in such a harsh and brutal environment without developing some sort of deadly counter measure to protect itself, and I fancy my self an explorer of both Kyrias and the world outside it's borders."

The smoke was starting to dissipate, whether they really liked it or not a choice had been made, without the smoke, escape would be a lot harder and thus it would seem they would have to give the heanta the benefit of the doubt. "I'll accept your help if you're offering it. I'm aware of the conditions out here enough to suspect that they might have unique qualities, my purpose coming out here is to confirm whether that is so, and for that I need samples. I am not unreasonable, if there is something that we cannot obtain or which would be too dangerous currently, I will leave without it, but I intend to return when I have come up with a solution." The two did not close the distance, but they didn't increase it either, and while Edmèe seemed at least somewhat amused by the sight of the bowing heanta, Isolde didn't make a sound for some time, waiting for him to raise his head if he would. "Braene then, while I appreciate being able to address you more properly, your name holds no greater meaning to me. Since you saw fit to warn me, I assume you know some more specifics about the dangers associated with the flora and fauna, so do share."

Isolde stood attentive, ready to receive and commit whatever he said to memory now. Edmèe looked around more out of boredom than expecting to catch any dangerous creatures moving around, but eventually saw all there really was to see from here and looked to Isolde for any signs of guidance. "Things are fine here, regroup and bring the others back to me" she ordered, having noticed the expectant look and fidgeting. "As for you, Mr. Braene, we do not have any sort of contract, so if you are expecting compensation for help, you will need to tell me clearly what you want." Without an agreement, a service could not be provided, any effort put forth was at best a charitable act and at worse harmful. Expecting payment for something you chose to butt in on was practically extortion, but help was offered and accepted, so payment ought to be discussed before it was done.

A tiptoeing expedition Empty Re: A tiptoeing expedition

He lifted his head finally and smiled to himself, both of the fiery sickles dissipating into nothingness. He took a moment to fully straighten his back and stood at his full height for a moment. "As for flora, we've a rather rare plant that grows here. I'd have to say from experience it's rare because we destroy it for our own safety. A carnivorous leaf, my only advice is try your best to not touch it. As for fauna, we've Ruks, Magma Crawlers, and Certals to name a few for you."  He wasn't in the mood to necessarily go hunting for a pack of Certal when it'd be much easier to spot a Magma crawler from a decent vantage point on the mountain and scale back down, yet in the back of his mind he was interested in what would happen to these three if they did encounter Certals.

Any positive look or smile he had upon his face washed away when the woman mentioned that she would return to Kyrias again if for any reason she couldn't gather the information she was looking for. The look that now painted the mans face was disdain and disgust. "How about this for a contract then. I'll help you get every last bit of information we can get now, and you agree to me that you'll take your time to seek me out again the next time you wish to step into Kyrias. It shouldn't come as a surprise that you three walking this land churns my stomach and I'd gladly spill your blood if your intentions weren't scholarly." He didn't need any sort of payment, and even then he was here now just to ensure these three left with their heads intact, yet that sympathy did not dull the sharpness of his tongue.

He turned to point towards the top of the mountain they were on, "It isn't a guarantee, but if your looking to find yourself a Ruk, one of our large birds of prey, reside typically atop some of our highest mountains. Be wary of it's claws, and know that it can easily take someone my size off the ground, its beak is no laughing matter either. Your best bet for a sample of the creature would be one of it's tough feathers." He then turned his back to the mountain and pointed out to the expansive magma fields and the few small moving silhouettes that dotted the horizon, "Those are magma maulers, top of the food chain, not so dangerous when their still young, yet something in them causes them to keep on growing. We've some interesting folk stories about the largest of them. They typically hunt one of our other dominant species here, but I'd rather not get between a mauler and it's food. So it's your choice, where we go first, Scholar."
